I have shifted my interests from Witchcraft back to servers for a little while. A lot needs to be done around here to get things back in place, so I am allowing some focus to fall on the many upgrades needed on the RasPI and desktops I have. I really need to do a major upgrade on my hosted server, but that is going to be super risky. I have taken the first step of removing some unused software from it, which I now wish I had just kept in place. In any case, it will require a major backup process and then a tricky re-deployment of the databases.

The RasPI stuff will require a keyboard and monitor, so I broke all of that out and rediscovered all the Radio Astronomy stuff I had packed away. Now I really hope I do get a chance to find something worthwhile to do with this idea. I know deep down that a personal radio dish will not be adequate to do anything meaningful for the most part, but it would still be pretty awesome. Pulsars remain the primary focus of amateur contributions, in that wavelength domain. Maybe an upgraded optical scope and a spectrometer would make more sense in either the city or rural locations.

I have doubled my efforts to figure out an analysis stack and how to hook into the online catalogs as well. I had forgotten how much Jupyter was able to do, so I am going to play with it more now that I have a better appreciation of it. I was surprised to learn the Octave mathematics package was available for Jupyter as a Kernel, so now that seems like a fun way to do signal analysis as well as photo stacking.
